It is a real cost saver when you can edit your pictures after you have taken them. It was always a hold your breath hit and misses way of taking pictures with standard cameras. Having said that there is still a place for those old faithful cameras in the world of photography.

Digital photography is a wonderful way to teach a youngster about catching memories for life. There is no real problem with the significant errors they will make in the beginning. As time goes on, they will take great pride in their work and hopefully have many happy hours at a great pastime.

One of the most significant ways you can help them achieve the goals they want is by teaching them how to edit the pictures so the can be printed.

Item #1: There are many free versions of photo editing software on the internet. Chose one that you feel is relatively simple and easy to use. This way you will be able to teach that novice photographer how to do their own editing. There are great programs such as Photoshop and Paint Shop pro, which can be purchased if anyone wants to become more advanced in their photography editing techniques.

Item #2: You are going to need some photos to work on. Either these can be downloaded from the digital camera or they can be scanned. Either way they can be edited readily. Unless they are perfect, you should not settle for less than best and do some type of editing at least.

Item #3 Now its time to edit. The decision here is what needs to be fixed in your opinion. Perhaps you want to cut out a lot of the useless stuff that got into your photo, so you do this by cropping it. Then you can sharper the color and contrast if you feel it necessary. Once you learn all these basics, you can get fancy with your special effects. You can make the photos look professional by adding a boarder. Perhaps put some clip art in the photo and even add some text to it.

Item #4: Once you feel the photo is exactly as you want it. Its time to print your masterpiece. Save the edited file under another name so you can keep the original as it was, just in case the edits did not turn out that great. That way you can start over again. Digital photo printing is much less complicated if you order the size of the original picture. Remember that if used any resizing features the quality of the photo will have changed somewhat. The same will apply if you change the size at which you want the picture printed.

Item #5 The last step is to send your photos to the printing website that is going to print your photos for you. You do this by uploading to their site, and they will guide you through the process. The quality will be very good and no doubt, you will be highly pleased with the outcome.

Want to edit pictures the quick and easy way? Download PhotoEditorX which includes tons of paint image editing software programs. You can use it for picture editing or you can create stunning graphics from scratch with it.

From time to time consumer electronics are making a big shift. The original Polaroid camera did it. So did the Apple and Mac. The portable cell phone was another instance. That time may have arrived again with Nikon’s new Coolpix S1000PJ. It’s the world’s first digital camera with a built-in projector.

Not just a one-trick pony, though, this camera has a dozen features that make it outstanding, even by contemporary standards. With a full 12.1 megapixels, resolution is superb on even the largest ordinary prints (such as 11 x 14, or even 20 x 24). But that size is only helpful with a low-noise chip; otherwise, the large capacity is useless. As usual, Nikon delivers.

The LCD monitor offers equally impressive function. At 2.7″, it’s large enough to make composing easy. And it keeps that value under strong outdoor conditions. The anti-reflective glare coating ensures clear viewing even in the desert.

The S1000PJ employs five different image stabilization methods to guarantee the sharpest possible shot on fast shots, too. Combined with fast, accurate autofocus you get crisp action shots every time.

Electronic VR image stabilization, Lens shift VR (vibration reduction) image stabilization, Motion Detection, and Best Shot Selector come into play automatically. With so much coverage of all the possible ways that tiny hand and body movement can fuzzy an image, you can bet you’ll get sharp photos on even high-action shots at high zoom. The Scene Auto Selector allows you to get crisp motion shots automatically even when the subject is moving at high speeds.

There are several stellar add-on features in the S1000PJ that are more than just “nice to have”, too.

Skin softening technology creates great portraits right in the camera. You don’t have to bother with lengthy touch-up sessions with computer image software afterwards. And, the Smart Portrait System gives you outstanding shots the instant you click the shutter.

The Quick Retouch feature balances contrast and color saturation. You get clear, rich looking photos consistently. Low-light shots are no problem, either. D-Lighting kicks in to add detail and optimizes exposures for you. You concentrate instead on selecting your shot. Let the electronics do all the technical adjustments for you.

There’s no denying, though, that the truly distinguishing feature is the built-in projector.

No need to download your photos to your PC or Apple to share them right away. Just project your picture on any flat, white surface to get an enlarged view of your snapshot anywhere, anytime. No need to plug your SD card into an HDTV to get large, ultra-high res viewing. The projector lens provides sharp images on any appropriate surface.

That feature would be nearly useless if you had to hold the camera, of course. Nikon developed a kit for the S1000PJ to allow you to put it on a stand for steady viewing. Then, click the wireless remote to move from picture to picture without rocking the projector. The S1000PJ’s slim case and low weight (155g/5.5 oz, not including battery) means you won’t get hand strain when snapping those shots either.

The Coolpix S1000PJ looks like a real game changer. See one and you’ll want to play.

If you’re looking to buy a new Nikon Coolpix digital camera check out why the Coolpix S1000PJ – the world’s first projector camera – is an excellent choice!

Its ironic how many people will settle for average work with the photos they take. It is most probable because they know they are not professional photographers so they do not set any expectations on themselves. What they do not realize is that they do not have to be experts to get high quality photos.

Another problem we have is not learning enough about the equipment we have. Many of us go out and buy top of the line digital cameras then neglect to learn about what half of the features are and where we can benefit from them.

You may be surprised to learn that you really do not need a top-notch camera to get great pictures. What you do need is though some knowledge of the basics of photography. Here are a few steps to help you along your way to taking great pictures.

Step #1: Do not be afraid of your subject. Get all of it in there. Unless of course you want a lot of background scenery. Many times amateur photographers are afraid to move in closer to their subject because they think their picture will be blurred or they will cut it too close and the subject will end up missing a part. Therefore, either move up or perhaps better still learn how to use your zoom lens.

Step #2: Being dead on is not always the best. It is usually not hard to tell am amateur photographer. They are easily sighted because they stand directly in front of their subject making sure it is perfectly centered before they take their shot. You can achieve much more interesting photos if you learn to look at the form of your subject then concentrating on what the form is. Look at all the different shapes and lines, and then determine what would be the best angle to take your photo from. If you can get some spare, time read up on the subject of forms.

Step#3: Forget about putting horizon lines dead center in your photos. They just do not help a good photo presentation. Keeping the object and what is around it still. If you are shooting a still object and something is moving around it then the photo will lose some of its value.

Step #4. Make the colors work for you. It does not matter how many color there are learn how to get the best from their contrast.

Step #5: We already talked about getting closer to your subject. What ends up happening when you take a picture that you wanted to get closer to you end up increasing the size of the photo in editing and losing its quality by doing so.

Step #6: A delay in the shutter closing often makes you think the camera is not working, when actually there is most always a delay of a second or two. You must be one-step ahead of this by knowing what your subject is going to do by way of movement.

Step #7 Use pan techniques to follow through on action shots when the shutter is slow. One of the shots should end up good. It is sort of a luck of the draw technique.

Step #8 If you are in the market of purchasing a new camera and you have learned the technique of panning then purchase a camera that is capable of doing continuous shots.

Step #9 For nighttime shots, gain some knowledge about the proper use of lighting and without it you just will not be successful in this area.

Step #10: Take advantage of what you have. If you have a camera then you should have a manual so be sure to read it and get the most out of your camera.

Now you can get professional photo enhancing in 5 minutes or less with the #1 free photo editing software from PhotoEditorX. Learn to enhance and edit photos easily and quickly.

The joy of technology means that we expect things to be done quickly yet we refuse to let quality take a back seat. Digital technology has let us tap into amazing speed joined with astonishing performance. No where can we see this more than in electronics; specifically, digital cameras. High speed digital cameras were expressly designed for admanced professional and industrial use. Confused? Let me explain this in a bit more detail.

When you want to capture multiple images quickly you want to depend on high speed digital cameras. These cameras are primarily used in industrial and scientific applications where processes move quickly and photographs must capture excessive rates of speed. Whether you need monochromatic or color photos, these cameras easily do both.

Monochromatic photos can be in either total black and white or a combination of both which gives you more of a grayscale photo. High speed digital cameras operate on the RGB color scheme which ends up generating a range of colors. RGB senses the red, green and blue components in the image and then blends these components together to form an extensive spectrum of colors.

A variety of unique features determine the performance of a high speed digital camera. These features are horizontal resolution, maximum frame rate and shutter speed. Horizontal resolution is the highest amount of individual photo elements which can be distinguished in one scanning line. This is an essential feature for characterizing correct horizontal video resolution for image aspect ratio. Horizontal resolution is also used to specify the resolution in the biggest circle which can fit in a rectangular image. For example, an 800×600 image would be specified as 600 horizontal lines.

The maximum frame rate refers to the maximum number of frames that can be captured in the specific time period. It typically refers to the frames captured per second. The shutter speed refers to the time of light collection or exposure. Shutter speed can be set across a wide range, depending upon the subject and light conditions.

When it comes to high speed cameras you have two basic choices: CCD and CMOS. CCD is short for charge coupled devices and is made up of a light sensitive silicon chip. As light hits the CCD the silicon chip begins converting the light into electrons. The chip then carries these electrons across the chip where they are read at one corner of the array. With the help of an analog-to-digital converter, the amount of electrons at each photo site is measured and then they are converted into the binary form.

CMOS refers to the complimentary metal oxide semiconductor. CMOS technology is also used to convert light into electrons. A CMOS uses a variety of transistors in every pixel to move and amplify the charge using traditional wires. The signals of CMOS don’t require conversion into digital form as they are already digital. The CMOS image sensors consume low power as they operate at lower voltages than the CCDs.

The prominent choices for digital output interface for high speed digital cameras include Ethernet, RS232, DeviceNet, CANbus, USB, SCSI, modem and wireless. The choice for a number of pixels can vary from 8 bits to 16 bits. Even the color output can vary from composite, RGB or S-Video.

Some of the prominent physical features for the high speed digital cameras include radiation hardened, underwater rated, outdoor rated, goose neck, board mount, pan or tilt and remote head.

The freelance world is one of the best ways to get a job and pay the bills. People who have been laid off from their everyday jobs are starting to use their creative talents to make money. Take for example, photography. This has become a great market and a great way to express yourself and pay your bills.

The first thing that you need to do is sit down and brainstorm about which direction you want to go in. Do you want to specialize in weddings or special events? Would you prefer to work for a small newspaper? There are many things that you can do when it comes to your photography so choose wisely!

In order to actually make money, people need to have an idea about who you are and what you do. This is where your portfolio is going to be able to help you out. Make sure that you include your best work in this portfolio and show people your strong suits. Get online and create a portfolio that people from all over the world can look at!

If you are just getting back into the world of photography make sure that you keep your regular job. It may take a little bit of time to get back into the swing of things, but once you get the hang of it again you should be raking in the dough! See how people are progressing and see which direction you might need to go in. Your portfolio should do all of the work for you but if you need some extra help try putting together your own website.

If you want even more business or you want to sell some photos of yours, then create a website. A website will allow you to get started without spending a whole lot of money. The less money that you spend to get started the better because you will be able to stay out of debt and make money,

You also want to make sure that you maintain a level of professionalism. When you make appointments make sure that you keep them. This way you can create a business that is reliable and pull in even more business. Remember, you want to watch your photography business expand and grow before your eyes!

Right now, the photography world is growing. Think about how many people are always looking to hire someone to take pictures. As long as you have the right camera you can easily get started in this job field. Start looking today ad build the portfolio that will make you famous!

Making money from something which you enjoy is always a pleasure, and knowing how to sell digital photos could open many doors for your photography passions. Being able to do so would be the cherry on the cake, the fact that you would be making a successful living from something that you are passionate about. That zeal is often driven from a sense of creativity, that desire to manifest something from your imagine into art, be it in written word, paint or photography.

With the talent in hand, having been acquired through years of practice, or having been just picked up on that inbred latent talent that you have always possessed, can start you off a joyous career. While taking great pictures is a skill in itself, it may require adding another branch to your tree in knowing how to sell digital photos for profit.

Your portfolio is as important as the photographs which they contain. This is the doorway, the entry key into the world of your art and skill for any potential customer. Your portfolio will have on display not only the pictures, but a discerning buyer will be looking for the skills of the artist too.

Just filling up a portfolio with the best photographs you have simply is not enough. While it is a great idea to have an eclectic array of pictures on show, it will be more productive and professional to break the portfolio down in categories. By having these organised sections, a customer will not have to wade through a tumultuous amount of random things to find a specific they are looking for. If they can go straight to a section and see what they want, then it will increase your chances of a sale.

When exploring how to sell digital photos, taking into consideration the possibilities that stock photography offers, can be a good foothold into obtaining some income. In this modern age, consumers want things delivered as rapidly as possible, for time is money. When photos can be delivered immediately in digital format, the customer will have no qualms about spending. Advertising agencies, magazines and publications and graphic designers to name but a few, all require good access to digital images, and this makes stock photography a good field to get into. Making part of your portfolio a dedicated section for stock photographs can increase your range and potential.

Stock agencies exist for this very purpose. They will want to purchase your photographs, usually on a commission basis so that they can promote and re-sell them on by licensing them for particular uses. Graphic designers, advertisers and publishers for example, may benefit from this process instead of paying a professional to get the shot they want. This may not generate the kind of income that selling professional digital photos yourself, but it can be a great way to subsidise any income.

The use of models in your photography can bring pitfalls if you don’t cover yourself properly. It is good to be fully aware of the legal standings when getting people to pose for you. Any recognisable person in your pictures has a right to control how their face is used, unless they waive their rights in contract model release forms. Not covering this properly can lead to compensation cases in court.

The photographs themselves should of course be clear, well composed without blur and digital noise in them. Pictures which look like they have been taken by a tourist will likely not get anywhere. Stock photography opens avenues so it is worth exploring exactly what kind of agency would suit you.

Taking as many photographs as you can will increase your selection of your best work. While this will build up hundreds of prints, be sure that only the very best ones find their way into your portfolio. Any potential buyer will not be looking for quantity, they will be looking for that one quality shot that suits their needs.

Always carry a business card, a photo business card for you never know when opportunity will strike a pose for you!

Over the years, you’ve probably seen plenty of indoor flash pictures that have a pitch black background and a washed-out, overexposed subject. Many factors conspire to produce these stark, unflattering shots, but one of the major contributors is, once again, your camera thinking on its own. You’re letting it decide when to turn on the flash and which shutter speed to use.

First of all, you don’t always need the flash. Indoor photography offers many opportunities for stunning existing-light portraits and moody interior shots. And when you do have to turn on the flash, you can make certain adjustments to preserve the ambiance of the room so that your background doesn’t fall into a black hole.

Flash shots may have a pitch-black background for a couple of reasons. The first problem is that the light from a typical digital camera’s flash reaches only about 2 to 3 metres. Anything beyond this range, and you’ve got yourself an inadvertent ambient-light photo.

If your camera has a manual mode that allows you to dictate both the aperture (f stop) and shutter speed, you can easily overcome these problems.

Once in manual mode, try this combination as a starting point for flash photography indoors:

Set your film speed to 100 Set the aperture (f-stop) to f-5.6. Set the shutter speed to 1/15th of a second. Use the forced-flash mode. (Don’t use the red-eye reduction feature)

When you use these settings, hold the camera as steady as possible or better yet, use a tripod. At these slow shutter speeds, your shots are more vulnerable to camera shake, and therefore to blurriness. Your flash will help freeze everything in its range, but the background, not illuminated by the flash, may blur if the camera isn’t steady.

If your camera doesn’t have a manual mode, all is not lost. Almost every consumer model has a night time or stow-synchro mode (look for a “stars over a mountain” icon). The intention of this mode is to let you shoot portraits at twilight. But you can also use Nighttime mode indoors to open up the background. Granted, you don’t have as much control with this setting as you do with manual mode, but you may be pleasantly surprised with the results.

Often people will judge the camera by the picture it takes, failing to realize the camera operator plays a big part in this as well. Many novices feel that they just simply look and shoot. Any touch ups can be easily done with the photo editing software. While this is true, it still is not a great way to take photos. There are actually 10 simple basic steps that you can apply that will help you get a much better quality picture no matter what camera you are using.

Step #1. Do not be afraid to get close to your subject. All too often people stand back to take their shot instead of moving in. I think this is because they do not feel that they can get close up because it may blur the picture. If you cannot get close then use your zoom lens. Experiment with the macro mode as well. After a while, you will become comfortable with closer shots.

Step 2: Do not be afraid to use the white balance as well. All cameras come with a default setting and it is interesting to note that many people have not changed this since the camera came out of the box weeks ago. In fact try the cloudy position; you will be quite pleased with the overall look you get. What happens is it increases the red and yellow tones. These are classed as warm colors so it gives more warmth to your photos without distorting it.

Step #3: No one remains perfectly still when holding the camera. We all think we have a steady hand but there is always some slight movement. This is where the tripod comes in handy. It may seem like a nuisance to drag it with you everywhere you go, but once you compare the quality of your photos with and without the use of it you will want to keep using it.

Step #4: Your flash is an important part of your camera. Experiment with the fill flash or flash on mode when taking your outdoor portraits. Make the flash work when you want it to and not when the camera thinks it should. Do not be afraid to put your subject in shaded areas and use your flash to compensate for the lack of light.

Step #5: Let nature be your guide in the sense of using their horizontal likes such as the horizon or a section of land. This means you are holding the camera level.

Step #6 Try using some polarizing filters. This is ideal for outdoor shots and they reduce glare and reflections. The overall appearance of the colors is much more distinct.

Step #7. Many people will not use the self-timer feature simply because they do not know the best way to do so. Place the camera on a stable surface. Focus the sensor on an individual that is in the group picture and not on the background.

Step #8: Everyone would love to take a picture of a waterfall, but do not give themselves enough credit to be able to do so. First, use your tripod. Adjust the camera for greater field depth and slow the shutter down. The exposure should be at least one second longer. Then use the self-timer feature to take the shot.

Step #9: One of the biggest mistakes made by a novice photographer is not having a big enough media or memory card. It does not take long to fill a card and it is disappointing when you are halfway through your photography project and run out of memory.

Step #10 Use your camera to the max, in other words shoot at the maximum resolution. This is what gives you the quality of picture you need if you decide to have it enlarged.

Get a new look in 5 minutes with free virtual makeup makeovers.

by Peter Wong

If you focus on event photography you can make quite a bit of money. It is a varied and widely sought after field of photography.

How to do it

The key trick is in choosing your market slice. You must choose a slice of the market where people want to keep memories alive in print. It must also be an event that is hard to capture for a not professional so that they will need your services.

One idea is to go to kids sports events. Get permission from the coach to click pics for the parents watching and then start clicking away. If you turn up with a huge telephoto lens like the ones used for pro coverage of events, you will be taken seriously. Make sure you get all the kids doing great action shots and then hand out flyers to all the kids parents watching with you’re web address. If you can write down the parents email address so you can email them the URL of you site then upload the pics to your web site that day and email everyone. If you have a simple shopping cart set up you can make money in a few hours as people pop in to see the pics and buy them for $20 or more a pop.

You can do a similar thing with weddings. Take all the regular shots as part of the wedding coverage but then get your URL printed on the wedding invites and all the other wedding materials and also get an email list of all the wedding guests, offer the couple a nice 20% discount for doing this and then take lots of extra pics at the wedding of the guests doing all the things they do. Upload all the pics to your site and send the emails. You will then make a lot more money than the 20% discount it cost you because then 30 or 40 people will be also purchasing your pics at $20 or more a shot straight from your site. Also charging them more for higher resolution shots is a great bonus income as well.

The key is to just find a corner of the market where you can take the pics and then sell them easily online.

Dog shows, fashion shows, horse shows, car shows, livestock competitions, rock shows, – the list goes on. Keep your eye out in the events section of your local paper to see what is happening. Always ask for permission to shoot pics and if you need to offer the people 10% of the income if feel you need to so you can get easy access.

There is such a wide range of cameras available, today, that it can be difficult to find the one most suitable for your picture taking needs. It is not like long ago, when you would have to pick the most expensive camera, in order to get the best picture, only to then have difficulty learning the proper way to use it.

Back then you also needed to account for the light, you didn’t want too much or too little, you wanted to make sure that you were not in a shadow and that there was no glare on any of the people’s faces. These days are no more, unless you are a professional photographer, or trying to get published in a magazine.
